This is an absolute must for anyone who loves geological sites and hikes! We have been here four times in the last 15 years and my husband, kids and I have loved it every time. One of the best spots to visit in Nebraska! Be sure to bring water even for the mile loop hike because it can get very hot and there is no shade. For a longer wonderful hike, start at the Hudson Meng dig site and hike the trail that leads to toadstool. It's a long hike, but worth it!
Out of this world. We gave ourselves a day here, but we all wished it had been two or three. The hiking is amazing and super unique. It goes from Arizona to New Zealand to Mars. Pictures will never do it justice. The landscape colors and unique formation of everything plus the Nebraskan sky work perfectly together to make a spectacle for the eyes. Been to 6 different countries and this is in the top 5 places I've been without a doubt. Definitely returning!
This park is a bit out of the way and you have to go down a long sketchy dirt road and you'll start to think "did I make a mistake?" but NO it is totally worth it. Beautiful unexpected scenery in Nebraska which appears like magic out of the grassland. The rocks are this beautiful pale color very different from the scenery in other badlands-type places nearby. There are picnic tables, 2 toilets, trash/recycle bins and an adorable self-pay station because this park is so remote. There is also a nice self-guided hike with info booklet provided.
This is an awesome place. I camped 4 nights here - one I was all alone. AH. Then there was a wedding that came for 2 nights and over ran the place ---could have done without that. Beautiful scenery, hiking trails. I can't believe how many people drove all the way out there...and NEVER GOT OUT OF THE CAR. WTF. If you go...get out and walk around. It's like a moonscape out there. Worth the trip 12 miles down a gravel/dirt road.
We loved it. One of the favorite parts of our trip. I don't know if I would bring my camper down the horrible road to get there, but taking the pick up was just fine. We hiked the trail and climbed all over the place.
